Armenia is one of the oldest civilizations and it is considered to be the cradle of wine making. According to the Biblical legend after the great flood the forefather Noah planted first grape in the slope of the biblical Mount Ararat. The wine was a reward for Noah and for his companions for all the sufferings that they overcame during the great flood. The scientific facts prove that the winemaking in Armenia dates back more than 6000 years. Armenian Highlands hid archeological treasures beneath its ancient soil until 2007, when the world's oldest winery was uncovered in the Areni cave in Armenia. Archaeologists have unearthed the prehistoric winemaking equipment which included a wine press for stomping grapes, fermentation and storage vessels, drinking cups, and withered grape vines. This is the earliest, most reliable evidence of wine production.
