Vranec
Vranec means 'strong, black and powerful horse' (black stallion). Wine from this grape is associated with power, strength and success. The name also refers to the deep, raven-black colour, which is why the wine is known in Macedonia as 'black wine'.
Vranec is a typical Balkan grape variety and reflects the character of the people of this region: warm-blooded and strong. In Macedonia, it is the most important and leading grape, which also embodies the character of Macedonian red wine. The intense dark red color is due to the high content of anthocyanins (colorants) in the grape, which makes this wine unique in its kind.
