The 6 guidelines

• Temperature
  Ideal: 10–12 °C
  More important than the exact number: stable (no fluctuations)
  
• Store lying down (with a cork)
  Keeps the cork moist → no oxygen
  
• Dark
  Light (especially sun/UV) = the enemy of wine
  
• Peace & quiet
  No vibrations (so not on top of the washing machine)
  
• Humidity
  60–75% is perfect
  Too dry = the cork shrinks
  
• No odours
  Wine “breathes” through the cork → no paint/petrol/garlic next to it
